Let’s Talk Extensions

20 Aug 2021

When we look at the term extension, many people consider this to be a large scale brick extension on your home. However, this isn’t always the case. Conservatories and Orangeries are also considered extensions.

Alternative Extensions

Large scale extensions are great if you are looking for a multistory or more permanent extension. However, they also come with a hefty price tag and don’t look quite so attractive as some of the alternatives available.
The main reason that people seek an extension is to increase their usable space in their homes. A simple, yet attractive, alternative is either a conservatory or an orangery. Both options allow you to increase your space to include a whole extra room. While maintaining a lower cost.

Conservatories

Big glass rooms that add a touch of elegance to your home. Previously only enjoyed in the summer, a space with a wicker sofa and a few overgrown houseplants sat. They are now commonly used as a room all year round. And what an attractive space they make.
Thanks to the majority of the space being made up of glass, very little focus needs to be placed on the decor, making it the perfect interchangeable space. From a dining room at Christmas to a play area in the spring, and a space to socialise during a summer BBQ.

Orangeries

Orangeries were originally designed to house and grow fruit trees. Allowing people to have fresh fruits not typically found in the UK.
In modern days they are a great way of adding an extra room, with a more solid roof than a conservatory. Previously, Orangeries were considered the warmer alternative to conservatories in the winter due to the increased brick structure and solid roof that they include. However, advances in glass and heating technology mean that this is no longer the case and both can be as warm as the other.

Small Costs, Big Changes

While neither a conservatory nor an orangery is pocket change, they are significantly cheaper than adding a full extension to your home. Which makes them a great and very popular option. While in the immediate they add you an extra helping of space (great for growing families) in the long run they will also increase the value of your home. Providing they are well built and well maintained. Here at C&W Direct, we leave you with nothing but the very best, so you can be sure our conservatories are sure to add to the value of your home.
