Do I Need Planning Permission for an Orangery?

20 Apr 2020

An orangery manufactured by C&W Direct is a beautiful addition to any home, giving you extra space for a spacious dining room or a tranquil reading room flooded with natural light.

Orangeries are thought of as a halfway between a conservatory and an extension – an extended living space that has the insulation of half brick walls plus the benefit of plenty of light and fantastic views of your garden.

But the question is, where do I start with this new build project?

We would recommend consulting planning permission rules as the first point of action.

The consequence of getting it wrong when it comes to planning permission can be costly. This could lead to rebuilding or even demolishing your orangery.

While there is plenty of information online, we would recommend speaking to one of our experienced team or a trusted source from the planning office.

Planning Permission Classifications for Orangeries

For planning permission purposes, an Orangery is considered as a single-storey extension which means it is subject to the same guidelines and building regulations as an extension.

Put simply, you do not need planning permission for an orangery if you build within permitted development rights following the acceptable guidelines.

If you have decided that an orangery will be the best extension for your home, we can help you avoid having to apply for planning permission.

Your Choice of Orangery with C&W Direct

C&W Direct currently offers four different types of Orangery for customers across Stafford, Lichfield and Cannock.

The traditional orangery is constructed using lintels, stone sills and a wide variety of roofing options to choose from.

The Ultraframe LivinRoom gives you the option of an external cornice to enhance its appearance. Alternatively, the LivinRoof design incorporates solid grey insulated aluminium panels inside and outside.

Finally, the Ultraframe Loggia features columns which can be added to the LivinRoom or LivinRoof designs.
